Sun Salutation Series Demonstration

By Project Wellness Now

Surya Namaskar, or Sun Salutation is a series of poses which strengthen, align and revive the entire body. Over the years, many different variations of this practice have been developed. The eight basic postures include:

Tadasana (Mountain Pose)

Urdhva Hastasana (Upward Salute)

Uttanasana (Standing Forward Bend)

Low Lunge (Anjaneyasana)

Plank Pose

Chaturanga Dandasana (Four-Limbed Staff Pose)

Urdhva Mukha Svanasana (Upward-Facing Dog Pose)

Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward-Facing Dog Pose)

You can practice these poses at your own pace. You can  move through this sequence rapidly if you need a quick warm up or go from pose to pose slowly and mindfully treating it as a form of meditation. If you’re a beginner start with 3 to 5 repetitions and in time,  gradually increase to 10 or 15. Finish the practice relaxing for a few minutes in Savasana.
